Now, we are especially excited about working with orphaned children. The project is really starting to get off the ground.

We have been visiting many families who are looking after our 22 orphaned children and have been able to show them God's love by providing school fees, uniforms, shoes, toiletries, and other needs.

It can be really hard work sometimes, and some situations we come across are just heartbreaking.

For example, there is one young lady called Makanda Suzanne. Both the father and mother died from AIDS, and she is the only guardian of her three young brothers, who are all under the age of 12. They are not studying, and one is sick. Suzanne was attending a two-year vocational training center. Unfortunately, she dropped out because she could not afford to cover school expenses.

The grandmother can't give care. She cannot meet living and school expenses. Suzanne is scared that her grandmother looks a lot like their parents did before they died. We are really concerned, as she is always busy helping the family to fetch water, wash up, and cook for them.

Yvette is now assisting her with an informal sewing and knitting program. It can sometimes be difficult. Makanda needs love and formal vocational training.

Many other orphaned children living in Kasungami face also a lot of challenges and lack support. It is important that these children be educated and get health facilities, healthy food, and safe drinking water.

Many thanks for your support! Yvette and Isaiah Njimbu

PRAYER POINTS

Pray that God will continue to work through us to get close to OVCs and other vulnerable people to share his love.

Pray that we be able to improve the living conditions of children in Kaungami by providing education, medical assistance, a demonstration farm, and safe drinking water.

Pray that God will really use these times to shape and mould this generation.

Pray that people understand the negative impact of HIV/AIDS.

Pray for the children--that they may come to know God's love through us.

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; Many families eat only one meal or less each day. Because of poor social conditions, many of these children are victims of ill-treatment. They are accused of witchcraft and blamed for families’ HIV/AIDS misfortune or poverty misfortune. Nevertheless, family members are taking advantage of this to justify their persecution. This has therefore forced them to leave and move to Lubumbashi in inhuman conditions, such as jumping on the freight train’s top (phenomenon called Armstrong). So, they are often electrocuted or carried away by the train’s draft and are dying.

Sammu

These displacements are causing death or many children being isolated from relatives. They have nowhere to live but in open streets and markets. In order to survive, they are occupied day and night with an exhausting combination of small activities. They are working in Nganda or Kabale (Dancing Club/Bar) and washing minerals (Ndandash) which are toxic, without rubber gloves or work gloves. Their lives are at risk. They face social and psychological challenges. For example, in April 2008, two orphaned children (13 year-old boy and 14 year-old girl) wounded themselves critically. They wanted to commit suicide because of life pressures. But, by God’s grace, people who found them twisting, took them to the closest Medical Center for treatments (Lubumbashi TV Mwangaza). Is evident by now, these children suffer and need the community’s hand.
Many initiatives and social programs may protect children who have been thrown out, reduce the incidence of child suicide, pregnancy and illiteracy significantly. We think that the more intervention services a child receives, the more life conditions improve and lower risks, displacements, witchcraft phenomenon, pregnancy, suicide and illiteracy. It is for this very reason we paid school fees, uniforms, pens and exercise books. We shared Christmas gifts. We organized extracurricular activities, such as visits to the Zoo and museum. We paid also close attention to medical care. Choir presentations are contributing tremendously to the reputation of Child Action. Children add their tone to make worship services a vibrant celebration all over for the glory of God and edification of the community.

The Choir welcomes and celebrates the gifts of all people and seeks, within a community of faith, hope and love, to empower them to achieve their potential. We strive to nurture distinct future leaders of the world, in God's love, who are not only school boys but also spiritually oriented.

The Choir encourages children to share their God-given gifts. It creates unity among children from diverse backgrounds and helps them to build lives of faith, hope and love under the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Children at Risk Every Day

EVERY DAY IS FILLED WITH DRAMA AND DIFFICULTY FOR ORPHANS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN

“If anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.” (Matthew 10:42)

In Kasungami (Labumbashi, DRC), as many as 85% of children cannot go to school, because their families cannot afford tuition, uniforms, or supplies. For those children, survival depends on finding work so that they can earn enough for food. Children transport goods (they are called “katako”), sell food, work in restaurants and homes, load and unload passenger buses, and shine shoes, or they find some sort of temporary job in exchange for food and money. Some get involved in hazardous labor, such as mining or filtering precious stones. Others get into selling alcohol and drugs, or prostitution. Still, many go hungry for days, and malnutrition is widespread, causing serious developmental issues.

Children's survival depends on their ability to find work

This situation mostly affects children who have lost one or both parents due to AIDS. Based on his analysis of the on-going work of churches, he declared that church members must resolve to work on programs of care to ensure that our communities are fully informed about the reality of the HIV/AIDS crisis and acting to support and sustain those affected by the epidemic.

“All human beings are created in God’s image,” Pastor Maile said, “and therefore have intrinsic value and dignity.” He stressed that people infected with HIV/AIDS are loved and accepted by God and are full and equal members of the human community. province came together for a training course in working with children in need of care.

As one of the invited speakers, I said: “The human mind is super powerful. Once decided, then we achieve it. With what’s happening around the globe, I think it’s time to take a step and move ahead.”

There is urgent need for better-integrated children’s services in DRC. Many vulnerable children are falling through the gaps between service providers. All must now work together more effectively to raise the quality of children’s services. Child Action needs to do better to ensure the most vulnerable children get the best start in life.

All children in DRC, regardless of background, should be able to achieve their potential. Some children are effectively “invisible” to services.

Providers do not use their knowledge on the ground to act soon enough or predict need for intervention.

We want the best for all of our children. We need to close the gap between those children who succeed in life and those who fall behind. That means providing a positive start and ensuring that children’s services really do reach all the most vulnerable and deprived. To achieve this, we want to ensure that we give the best possible start in life to all children with the necessary support to widen their opportunities for the future.

Programs

Focus on child development
We believe that the best way to benefit a community is to develop its youth. When children in our programs grow into powerful Christian leaders, they help to transform their communities. Building up children first, with the help of caregivers, churches, schools, and communities, is an excellent strategy to bring lasting change.

Focus on child discipleship
We believe that the most loving thing we can do for children is to introduce them to Jesus Christ. Nothing is more important than giving children an opportunity to know Jesus and learn the word of God.

It was not until my training by Child Evangelism Fellowship in 2000 that my mission began to take shape. My ideas developed during my studies at Africa University, a Pan-African institution where students from all over Africa are able to exchange experiences and discuss national issues.

Investing in the future is an objective that must be taken into consideration for tomorrow's society. It is from this point of view that I have expressed my wish to set up a social action project for humanitarian needs, working with underprivileged children and poor families in the DRC. Doing so will enable me to give back to the community skills and knowledge I received both from my studies and from my volunteer activities with children's ministries, such as Fairfield Children's Home at Old Mutare Mission in Zimbabwe and the Good News Dorcas Club (GNDC) I founded in January, 2003.

Child Choir

MISSION STATEMENT
Child Action strives to improve the living conditions of orphans and vulnerable children by creating, inspiring, and nurturing the development of spirtual life, education, health care, food, and recreation facilities. Furthermore, the envisioned activities of the Project are intended to benefit children within the community where they live, without any discrimination of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, political belief, national origin, physical and mental disabilities, or age.

Child Action will target the following goals:

Improve the social conditions, education, health, and quality of life of orphans and vulnerable children;

Child sponsorship programs, which provide help with school fees, school supplies, clothes, and food. Situated near the Zambian boarder, Lubumbashi offers an administrative advantage as the capital of the Province. It provides the Congo's infrastructure, is the commercial and industrial center, and is accessible to the rest of the country.

What is going on with DRC kids?
For many orphans and vulnerable children, their ability to survive depends on their finding work to earn enough for food. They transport goods, sell food, work in restaurants and homes, load and unload passenger buses, and engage in temporary work in exchange for food and money. Other children are involved in hazardous labor such as mining, child soldiers, prostitution, or selling drugs and alcohol. The situation of those children is precarious. Most of them live in dirtiness and total insecurity. They have no rights and no access to education, health care, food, or security. They are at risk of total economic exploitation.

Kibwe Girard (9) - no school

Kapenda (11) head-of-household
No school, no food
Raising 2-year-old sister, Kata

What will become of these kids tomorrow?
